Okay, so the story's about a kid who is cast out from his family, abandoned by the circus and has to earn 500 rupees to return home while living on the streets of Bombay. Sounds depressing, right? The surprizing thing is just how much joy is to be found in this movie. No one is completely destitute, even the most pathetic of characters. It is truly a good description of poverty-- much tragedy, with hints of happiness throughout.
